Batteries are the key component of any electric vehicle or bicycle. Battery purchase and replacement constitutes almost 100% of your operating cost. The cost of electricity to charge them is insignificant in comparison. So, choosing the right battery is the most important decision you will make.
At EcoSpeed we try to take an agnostic attitude towards batteries. Most e-bike, scooter, and electric vehicle manufacturers try to lock you in to their battery solution. That means when it comes time to replace your battery pack, you have no choice but to pay them whatever they're asking for whatever they have. We don't do that. Battery technology is advancing rapidly today, so we want to make sure our customers can always take advantage of the latest technology. Or, take advantage of the lowest cost one. The important thing is that you get to choose.
Below are the battery options we offer. If you want to choose a battery from somewhere else, or even put together your own, we will support you in doing that.
These include everything you need to power up your Electric Mid-Drive unit: battery, battery case, fuse, power switch, mount to attach the battery to your bike, and all wiring. With one of these batteries, an EMD, and the proper frame adapter for your bike, you have a complete system.
Lithium Ion Polymer, 16Ah, 37 Volt
Lithium Ion Polymer has the highest energy per unit weight of any battery technology on the market. This battery has about 530 Watt-hours of useable energy and can supply up to 35 Amps of pulse current or 25 Amps of continuous current. A built in Battery Management System (BMS) protects against short circuits and overcharging to insure safety. The BMS also keeps the individual cells in balance to maximize capacity and extend life. Not for use with the Powerpack motor. Weight: about 11 lbs (5.0 kg), Dimensions: 11.2"L x 5.5"W x 3.9"H (285mm x 140mm x 100mm). Includes 3 Amp charger, pannier rack mount battery cradle.

Lithium Ion Polymer, 24Ah, 37 Volt

Lithium Iron Phosphate, 10Ah, 38V Available mid to late 2008
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) is the newest member of the lithium battery family. It features an extremely long life span -- 5 to 10 years in normal use, can be rapid charged in as little as 20 minutes, and has individually replaceable cells and BMS modules for easy maintenance. Useable energy is about 350Wh. We package these batteries in a Topeak MTX style case that fits into a track on top of a special pannier rack. The case also features extra storage space for locks or other small items. Case dimensions: 12.5"L x 6.5"W x 7.5"H (320mm x 165mm x 190mm). Weight with case: about 11 lbs (5.0 kg). Lead-Acid, Powersonic 10Ah, 36V
High quality starved electrolyte Powersonic lead acid batteries save on cost. Useable energy is about 300Wh. Not recommended for use with the Powerpack Motor. Packaged in a Topeak MTX style case that fits into a track on top of a special pannier rack. The case also features extra storage space for locks or other small items. If you have a modest amount of electrical and mechanical skills, you can put together your own battery system and save yourself some money. The easiest solution is to wire together some generic lead-acid batteries which are available everywhere and purchase an SLA charger off the web. You can also purchase lithium batteries and chargers from other suppliers or even purchase the same LiFePO4 cells that we use direct from the manufacturer, LifeBatt (www.lifebatt.com) for significant savings. Whatever you choose to do, we will support you with technical advice, mounting pieces, and the proper connectors and wiring.

Includes all the wires and connectors you'll need to build your own 36V lead-acid battery system from 3 12V SLA batteries. Also includes a fuse and a switch box and and a charger port with 2-pin inline connector.

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag
One of the best ways we've found to carry batteries on a bike. These bags are made to slide into a special groove on top of a pannier rack. A quick release latch and heavy duty carrying handle make it easy to carry your battery indoors for charging. Depending on how many batteries you pack inside, you can have extra space for a lock, extra clothing, or even your charger. Comes in two sizes with or without foldable side pannier bags.

Rechargeable batteries wear out and must be replaced periodically. Odds are though, with advances in battery technology now proceeding at a rapid clip, you'll never replace your battery -- you'll just upgrade to something better.
Lithium Ion Polymer, 26V special Upgrade
Our earlier 26V 20Ah lithium ion polymer batteries are no longer made. A 26V 30Ah is still available, but is very expensive and won't fit in the original 30Ah case. So, we're offering a special upgrade deal to our 26V lithium battery owners. Buy a new 37V 16Ah or 37V 24Ah battery and charger and get a 37V BMC motor for half price. If you have a Powerpack motor, it is 37V compatible already, so all you need is a new 37V battery. For Powerpack motor owners, we'll throw in a charger for free.
