* Rated power is what a motor can continuously put out under all operating conditions. Both the BMC and the Powerpack motors are capable of much more than rated power for long periods of time or even continuously in cool temperatures. The BMC runs cooler than the Powerpack and so can exceed its rated power for longer intervals. Exceeding rated power output for long periods in hot weather is likely to result in the controller shutting itself off to prevent damage. If this happens, it can take quite a long time for the controller to cool enough to come back to life. Expect to pedal some in this situation.

† Mid-Drive reduction gearing is from the motor shaft to the mid-drive spindle. The overall ratio is the ratio of motor shaft speed to mid-drive spindle speed. The mid-freewheel and mid-sprockets turn at spindle speed. The mid-freewheel is driven by the front chain which connects to the bike's crank assembly. The mid-sprocket drives the rear chain which connects to the rear derailleur or internal hub gear assembly. The ratio of mid-sprocket to mid-freewheel tooth counts is a step-up in gearing provided to the rider by the mid-drive which allows for more relaxed high speed cruising. Mid-sprockets and mid-freewheels are standard bike parts available at any bike shop allowing you to easily modify the factory gear ratios. For the fine points of gearing look here.
